Updates and recalibrations

So, things are changing at CPF Headquarters. As the new year enters its second month, I’m refocusing some of my projects to – hopefully – be more efficient, gain new readers/followers and maybe even (gasp!) make a little more money as a freelance writer. Spent a depressing morning on Craiglist yesterday looking at writing “jobs.” The majority of them were of the “great exposure” and “volunteers preferred” type. Seems like a good time for an attitude adjustment and a bit of career recalibration.

Up top of this web site there’s a new tab – $ ? ! – where I’ll be adding some info on the editorial work I do. Please take a look and get in touch if you have any questions, would like to hear more, or have any suggestions of what materials you’d like to see in the upcoming “Samples” section.

One of the refocusing decisions I made was to stop the Twitter feed for the O/CD New Music Tally, where I used to catalog each new album acquired in my music-loving work/life. The first year I did so, counting physical promos, stuff I purchased and the then-occasional shared download, I was surprised and a bit thrilled when I hit 1,000 in the course of a year’s collecting. These days, with so many digital downloads being offered to me (one friend  sends me links to literally a half-dozen each day!), that number becomes meaningless. I could grab new music and list it all day but what would that mean? Better to spend the time actively listening and writing in more depth about fewer albums. Agreed?

My other two Twitter feeds – @mariannemeyer (music, politics and personal fun) and @setlistsite (all the latest set list stuff from WhatchaGonnaPlay.com) will get all the attention now. Would be chuffed, as the Brits say, if you’d follow them.

Also, two recently posted thingies I’d love for you to check out:

My Top Ten Albums and Singles ballot for the Village Voice Pazz & Jop Poll.

An examiner.com article about musical events tied to the Super Bowl (I like to think of it as a Venn Diagram in words).

Today’s catch-up episode of “@Midnight” (my new favorite show) is winding down, so I should move on to other carpe diem events. Thanks for dropping by!
